Hi
I will be playing bass clarinet for this in May - from the Salabert edition I would guess...
Does anyone know whether the bass part is in bass or treble clef, and whether for a bass in Bb or A ....
Hopefully...

It's bass clarinet in Bb, and mainly in bass clef. The parts in treble clef are played an octave higher than written.

My Olds Professional only goes to Eb - any ideas whether low C is needed ?
Can borrow a Buffet low C if necessary...

Hello Alan,
I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that there is a D or two, but I did this piece last year and I'm sorry that I'm no longer certain.
There are some beautiful exposed passages for you, and it is a wonderful piece of music. I also recall finding that the work was not difficult (in general).

I played the Salabert edition, and it didn't need any note below Eb. I agree with James that it's a very rewarding piece to play. Poulenc wrote very imaginatively for woodwinds, and this piece is no exception.

Glad it's not too taxing...
Bass clarinet is my second instrument - I'm really a bassoonist....
