I have a Louis Clarinet in A but it does not seem to be the same as those mentioned on previous bulletin boards from last year.
This clarinet has the incription Louis, LM6 or LM5, London, Made for, (could be) Rudall Carte Co Ltd. on the bell and the barrel although quite faded most of it can be read. On the upper and lower joints the number 7405 and Made in Italy appear. All sections of the clarinet (except mouthpiece) are constructed from the same type of wood which looks like any other black wooden clarinet, but when inspected under light it is a beautiful reddy dark brown colour.
If there is anyone who could throw any light on this, it would be much appreciated.

Louis LM5 oboes were built by Prestini or Orsi (they're incredibly similar if not virtually identical), so this clarinet could be from the same factory.
These were made for B&H who bought the names Louis & Co. and Rudall-Carte & Co. and stamped them mostly on imports and some student models made in the B&H factory.
I've never seen a single Louis LM5 clarinet before, but plenty of Louis LM5 oboes.

They were either Czech or Italian - possibly made by Rampone&Cazzani who made the Evette flutes. Does it say 'Foreign' anywhere on it?

Chris, the piccolo has no other markings on it.
I don't play flute or piccolo, my wife is learning, but my clarinet and sax teacher says it actually plays quite well!
