Hey everyone,
I recently acquired a Dupont Superior metal clarinet. I need to give it an overhaul including pads, a cleaning, adjustments, and a new screw.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this brand?
Thanks,
Neal

Hi Neal - If you Search [above] for Dupont, you will find some of the D's cl history, however I didn't see anything re: metal cl's. Jim Lande is our expert here, look up his several summaries of the metals. Luck, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

According to the New Langwell index, Dupont was a Sears & Roebucks trade name stenciled on instruments imported from France. In other words, we know who sold the clarinet (Sears) and where (probably in the U.S.) but not who made it.
I have been watching eBay auctions for a decade and have never noticed one for a Dupont Superior. so I have not seen what the keywork looks like. I have seen a couple marked Dupont Artist Paris. One of these was an albert system clarinet. Not too many albert system metal clarinets were made. From the pictures on eBay, I was moderately sure that they were student models.
Let me know what you think of it once you get it restored. Send pix, if you like, and I'll see if there is anything else I can think to add.
