A newyear Hi- almost...........
as a newcomer to this site, I am most impressed by the organisation behind it, and the fact that so many well-informed and experienced persons are willing to devote so much time, thought and energy to answering so many questions and to solving so many sometimes almost impossible problems at a distance.
Now the downer............. having scanned through quite a number of past posts, one thing strikes me- the small number of "thank you"s for such generosity. How little time it would take to post a thanks- even if you don't agree or fully understand the reply.
Would it not be good to see a change in the coming year?
(on the other hand, maybe it would just clog the system).
And a word of encouragement to the older starters......... I can see how discouraging it can be to see the young whizz-kids at it, but just tell yourself that when they are disillusioned and burnt out by the time they reach 30, you will still be delighting in discovering new tricks.
HNY to all when it comes................ H&P

Good point. Thanks to all the posters who have eased the learning curve. Sometimes all it took was a good atta boy to keep me practicing. I'm now in my fourth year of TRYING to play the clarinet. Around the end of the second year I thought I was ACTUALLY playing, but we all know better than that now, don't we? So I'll keep slugging along. Learning to play music (yes, some of the sound comming out of my horn these days qualifies as a crude form of music) is one of the most fulfilling endeavors of my 53 years on this planet.
So I raise my glass to the kind folks I've never met in person who've inspired me to keep going when it was dicey that I could ever improve and to all those newbies I was able to prod along the path with posts of my own experience.
Happy New Year to All.

Yes, good point H&P. I've gained some very useful knowledge from the members of this board, and in the "give n' take" have not, I'm sure, expressed enough thanks. Also, I'm unable to contribute as much as I gain. So, thank you all, even as the debates and opinions get heated, we learn and grow.
Happy New Year.

Happy New Year, and I will add my thanks to everyone above.
I haven't ever actually contributed to any of the threads before, as I tend to just lurk, but I do enjoy reading everyone's posts and learning from others. As I'm very much a beginner, (still trying to find a teacher!), this site has been a gold-mine of information.
HNY folks :D

My daily routine consists of waking up with morning coffee and a a quick look at the clarinet bulletin board on my i-phone before even getting out of bed! How addicted is that?
I am very appreciative.

Hail to all OPSIMATHs....... (Gr.) "one who comes to learning late in life"
Wait a min...... Hail isn't Greek?..............
And thanks for the replies...... I thought I might get bombed out of the club.
What is Greek for Hail?
Actually, I suppose on reflection that I was looking for some kind of resolution or closure on some topics. Sometimes it is a bit like reading a collection of shaggy-dog stories that have no last lines.
What happened next? Did the writer buy the Golden clarinet, and the keys fell off? That kind of thing........... H&P.

Greek for 'hail!' (if you're addressing 3 or more people) is 'khairete' -- or at least that's what it is in ancient Greek.
Happy new year to all.
