After 35 years of on-and-of-again trying, I just managed to put together a woodwind quintet, and we spent a happy 2 hours last weekend reading. Four of us are in town for the holidays, but, our horn player is out of town.
So, can anyone recommend quartets (Fl, Ob, Cl, Bn)? I have these:
Bozza: Trois Pieces pour un Musique de Nuit
Francaix: Quatuor
Schickele: 7 Bagatelles
Thanks!

Myself, I'd be weird and read any string quartets. The flute and oboe would have to take a few notes up and all four would have to pick notes for double stops. The viola part is fairly easy to read on Bb clarinet if you read bass clef. Just read each note as if it was in bass clef, one octave higher!

Thanks, Bob...Of course I'm the one who also plays string quartets with a violinist and an accordionist!

Katrina,
Interesting idea, something that I would try. Now to sell it to the other 3 players...

I have just had a quick look in the June Emerson Catalogue and saw that she lists over 50 pieces for flute, oboe, clarinet & bassoon (mostly arrangements). A bit late for you to get sonething from the UK, Ralph, but maybe next time?
As an arranger I have found that string quartets don't go well as a wind quartet. There are virtually no places to breathe and the idiom is completely foreign. I would say that if you do decide to play a string quartet, you need a special arrangement for 5 winds.
