 Story about clarinet(ist)

In the local (online) paper there was a story about clarinetist Chen Halevi. I don't know too much about him and only heard him once, but part of the story I thought was interesting to translate here.

It was about him playing the Mozart concerto on a basset clarinet which I think is a copy of an old instrument. For years he preferred the regular clarinet over the basset clarinet, until one time he went to Selmer. There was an older person there who told him he built a basset clarinet copy of the old clarinet a few decades ago, and that this clarinet was actually never played before. According to this person the clarinet was probably on one of the shelves somewhere in the factory. They went to search for it and found it, and it was actually never played. After playing it he said he "found the instrument".

Very, very hot player. Abe Galper turned me onto him.

In the archives here there's a good article about the Berlin Phil Clarinet section who made a petition about him teaching in Germany but not playing the German system.

Chen is in Ricardos league in my opinion.

clarnibass -

I found Chan Halevi's website, http://www.clarichen.com/, but couldn't find the online newspaper article that mentions the Selmer basset clarinet. Could you please give us a link?

Thanks.

I can try to find it, but I'm not sure it is still online. Someone emailed it to me, and I can forward it to anyone who wants, but... I didn't notice my ISP thing for some reason says nothing now so... the article is in Hebrew. I guess it wasn't clear eventhough I wrote "translate".
