 Rossini Introduction Themes and Variations
Author: Amy
Date:   1999-03-15 00:16

As I am beginning to learn this piece, I would like to find a good recording. So far I haven't had any luck finding a CD with this piece. Does anyone know of a good CD I could look for?
TIA

Amy :)

Here are four with my personal comments.

Charles Neidich (Deuche Grammophon) Weber Clarinet Concertos and Concertino and Rossini Introduction Theme and Variations. He takes all tempi very fast. Extraoridinary technique.

Emma Johnson (ASV) Crusell Conerto #2, Weber Concertino, Baerman Adagio, Rossini .... Very leisurely tempi in all pieces. The Rossini was good but not as much of a show piece for technique as the other performers.

Richard Stoltzman (RCA Victor) Weber Clarinet Concerto #1, Rossini ..., Mozart Andante. My favorite Rossini. I like the tempi and the subtle dynamic changes. He also goes to high C at the end of the cadenza unlike the others.

Sabine Meyer. I think the CD is called Night at the Opera. Very clean performance. But she does no cadenza at the end, just a chromatic run. Left me with no strong opinion.

I have the Neidich and Meyer recordings and like them both. Charles Neidich recorded the Rossini with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra on Deutsche Grammophon. There is a budget recording of this out called "Rossini--Overtures" catalog # 445 569-2.

The Sabine Meyer recording is called "A Night at the Opera." It is recorded on EMI Classics, catalog #7243 5 56137 2 1.

I hope this helps :)

I have done that piece as a professional Accompaniment. If you need the Piano part in Recital practice quality, see
www.mytempo.com
My student won 2nd prize in the 1992 ICA Young Artist Competition using that piece.
