I've known several people that went there and have never heard a bad thing about the school.
Larry Combs, John Bruce Yeh, and Julie Deroche teach there...how could you go wrong? My friend told me that Julie is amazing and that the other two have very strong points as well.
Good luck
John Wiseman

John Yeh does not teach there any more. He teaches at Roosevelt with Greg Smith. It's Julie Deroche, Larry Combs and Wagner Campos.
It's a very strong school for clarinet along with many others. When considering schools for clarinet, it has to be on the list. Many, many good players have come out of Depaul over the years.

My Clarinet teacher went to DePaul and he's amazing. He told me it was worth going to DePaul just for Julie Deroche since she's such a great teacher. I want to go there in two years.

Good teachers, strong wind and brass department. The only thing I've heard negative, from a student of mine that went there for grad school, was that the strings were not very strong. That was several years ago though. ESP

Just out of curiosity because I can't think of them right now, what good players have come out of De Paul recently?

Well, for openers, how about Paul Demers (Philadelphia Orch.) and Gene Mondie (National Symphony)?

Carey Bell's another one as Principal of SanFran.
How about the people that have come from there recently to do Civic or New World, or the top festivals? I'm sure there are people that won jobs recently from DePaul that I've forgotten.

For very recent news with DePaul students. In the 2006-2007 season for the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, three new clarinetists filled the section vacancies that opened up. The three of us were all DePaul students/alumni.
