Is the Selmer Soloist a good clarinet for a HS student? How does it compare to other intermediate Selmer's? How does it compare to the Buffet E-11? What other wood models would you recommend for an intermediate HS student?thanks

yes the selmer soloist is a very good choice for a HS student, definitely a better choice then an e11. i've played both and felt that the e11 had more resistance to the soloist. used soloists go around $200-300. there's been good reviews on the lyrique clarinet by tom ridenour, haven't tried one myself, but sherman friedland has been very consistent on reccomendations so I wouldn't hesitate to try one if i was in the market.
Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. they are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which was already but too easy to arrive as railroads lead to Boston to New York

Which Selmer Soloist were you referring to? Isn't there a new Selmer Soloist available new now as opposed to the Signet Soloist of years ago? The older Signet Soloist was a nice intermediate clarinet. I've never tried the new Soloist.
