I'm trying to piece together the history of the Chedeville Company for a historical monograph so I would appreciate any documented historical bits and pieces that you may have. My current enigma is Edward Chedeville. A friend just came into possession of an Edward Chedeville mouthpiece and I have documentation that he made mouthpieces in the early days of the Chedeville Company circa 1924. Anyone know his relation to Charles Chedeville? Vague references appear about Edward throughout the 20 year history of the Chedeville mouthpiece company but nothing substantial about his role in the company.
Thanks

Doesn't Brad Behn have a bit of Chedeville history on his website?

Hi Omar- from a bit of "looking-around", prob. repeating your researching, yes, Brad has perhaps pursued the Ched farther than even Ben Redwine and www.Sterkel.org/clarinet and others from a Google Search for Ched mps. I looked in our library's Groves and found only the Ch's of the 1700's. So, best of luck, Don

Thanks, - Brad Behn, Gregory Smith, and Clark Fobes who have been helpful from the mouthpiece nomenclature, hallmarkings, and identification angles. I was hoping to find someone who knows about some documentation of the people and Chedeville company details. I have researched the rubber manufacturing techniques, machinery, materials and conditions used to make the rubber both at Chedeville and similar rubber manufacturing companies that were peers in the 20's and 30's for my own recreation of the Chedeville rubber formulation. The three main characters - Charles, Henrie (who got blanks sent to the U.S. from Charles) and now Edward are less well described as the major and minor players in the Chedeville company.

How about Edmond? I've had two old clarinets with his name on them. And I've got some Charles Chedeville reeds, not very good.

Dave - were the clarinets Albert or Boehm system? If Boehm he is unrelated to the MP story.

Velly interesting, All ! Making a "Blingo" search for Ched, I also found an EdMOND cl at NMM, so I'd suggest inquiries to Debbi Reeves, Al Rice, Shackleton collection, ?also other museum-collectors? for "bits-bytes" of info. Don

Ken,
I assumed Alvin was talking about Henri, who lived in Phila.

Sim. to Dave's comments, their NMM E Chedeville started as a 17/6 Boehm [I believe] and being in Rosario Mazzeo's collection, has many of his ?experimental? improvements. Debbie Reeves' [?] comment-description is very interesting, at least to me. Mps are not mentioned, but an inquiry might turn up some info. Incidentally, I searched both USPTO and Google Patents, finding only other, more recent, Ched names inventing in other fields. I also searched Canadian patents, nothing, but I'd suggest making a French, perhaps a German also, older patent search, since in the early 1900's, France was a "publication" [little examination before issuance] country [diff from US and DE]. Such a search might cost a bit !! Luck, Don
