I prefer to use v-12,3.5,when I get a new one it takes time to get it soft enough to get that nice creamy sound and good high notes. But why cant I just get that with a softer reed to start with?I have tried and the softer ones are just no good at all ,I blow through them ,has anyone any ideas, thanks!

How long have you been playing? You may be pretty strong, by now. The V-12s blow a little softer than the vandoren standard version.
V-12s are apparently built with a little more "backbone" along the vamp. They still must be thinned to get the degree of softness on the box along the taper.
My teacher has a test play/soak/verify/soak again cycle to get to that "creamy center".
