 Rentals

Alright so this year I got accepted into NC Governors School West (orchestra) The letter today asks for clarinet players to bring an A clarinet. I don't have one and I think it will be hard to convince my parents to buy me one even if it is used or a Lyrique. I was wondering where should I start to try to get one out on loan? For NC people, I'm in the Fayetteville/ Ft. Bragg Area and I will be attending NCGSW at Salem College. There will only be one A clarinet provided and it will be not of great quality (paper says so).

Call Mark at Weiner Music. They rent all instruments.

While you probably won't get a top of the line Buffet A clarinet to rent, whatever brand it is, Mark will set it up so it plays perfectly for the short amount of time you will use it.

Last year I was hired to play a school show which called for a Reed 1 book of piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet and soprano sax.

Since I don't own an alto flute, the school rented one for me from Weiner Music. It played perfectly on arrival and the brand (Gemeinhardt) was more than adequate...GBK

Sounds expensive. Maybe even $400 for a summer if it's anything like I have seen for a rental like that. You could present it to your parents that you could buy a lyrique or E11 buffet new and sell it on Ebay after the summer.

Just a thought.

Possibly there is a school nearby that has one you could borrow or rent?

Interesting situation. It seems like today you have to apply for a second mortgage to buy a set. Congrats and good luck

Thanks to all the suggestions. I've made some calls and some emails and if it is necessary I can either rent one or borrow one from a local college. I read the letter again and it says we will rotate chairs so everyone will play A, Eb, and Bass. I contacted the guy and he says that there are actually two A's so I shouldn;t worry about buying one and to just bring my Bass. I know eventually I'll have to buy an A though if I will major in music.
