Buffet R13 Serial Number? Can't be searched online.

I bought an R13 a while ago (say a year ago) and it came with everything and looked legit. I played it and it blew my E11 away easily. The ease of playing intonation, etc was way better than the R13. Would that be a sign of legitimacy? I bought it off a top-seller from eBay because it was only around $2400. (silver keys version).

Also do you have to register the clarinet before it shows up on the website when you search the serial? I tried to register it with the little post-card paper thing that came with it, and i just tossed it in the mail, and it came back because it was all ripped up and smashed/wrinkled (probably from other mail) so it was sent back to me. I didn't attempt to send that back. Is this the reason why this R13 wasn't registered?

As far as I am aware the serial number lists are generated from the factory manufacturing records - they do not rely on you returning anything.

If its about a year old then I would expect the serial number to be somewhere in region of 59xxxx and say 62xxxx.

I have two instruments, a Festival Bb and an RC Prestige Bb that don't come up when searched. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to worry about. I feel quite confident both horns are legit. I just bought the RC, the Festival I've had for three years or so.

There are imitation B12s around, but I haven't seen knock-offs of other models. Are those out there as well?

The fake B12's show up most fequently but rest assured that there are fakes of the higher end models out there as well. Realistically any instrument that is valuable and can be shipped easily with have fake copies made of it.

I've seen more than a few fake R13's on the auction site over the years. Usually they are easy to spot (i.e. older no-name clarinets with the Buffet logo crudely painted on them) .
