Any suggestions for music for an effer trio? Yes, I know intonation will be a huge challenge but three of us in our community band have Eb's and would like to get a chance to play them. Instead of "Flight of the Bumblebee" maybe "Flight of the Gnats"?... Thanks for any ideas!

We pick and choose from standard trio repertoire (but no, not the Boufil trios!). We've found particular success, certainly when we first thought it was a good idea, with trio arrangments of baroque and early classical pieces. I (and I think the other two) are particularly fond of an arrangement of Corelli 'Christmas Concerto'. There are some collections out there, unfortunately at least one is out of print. I can try and remember to note down the publication next time I'm near the holder of the music box. If any of you have music notation software (or a decent manuscript hand) you could transcribe some short pieces yourselves; I did three William Byrd 'Fantasias' which work well. I think the edition I did it from is out of copyright, so it might be possible to share those with you if you would like. At our last session we had fun with - well - I _think_ it was this - Lewin, Gordon - Rather Russian For Clarinet Trio.
It is fun (we started as an occasional basset horn trio, but now always start our evenings on e-flats).

Some of Kuhlau's flute trios might work, if you can transpose them to suitable keys.

There are a number of French baroque unaccompanied flute trios by Boismortier. If you get an edition transposed for alto recorder, with notes starting on the treble clef's low F, it will put the eefers into very un-cat-friendly territory. Or get the original flute notation for a more mellow sound.

Thanks for all your ideas! They will be more than enough to get us started.
