I just have a quick question. Is the Yamaha cork grease the same as all the bad ones or is it a good one? I'm not looking for cork grease, I just need to know specifically about the one from Yamaha.

I use beef tallow.
Unfortunately, it only comes in 100 pound blocks from the local render. But it's so cheap, it's no big deal to throw 99 lbs and 13 ounces of it away.
Anyway, it's the BEST!
(Rumor has it that it was beef tallow on his corks that gave Muhlfield his legendary sound.)

Yeah GBK - that was pretty insane of them to make it grape flavored. I actually like grape flavoring, but anyone who doesn't like it would have hated the stuff.
Maybe that would be an idea for a cork grease company - strange flavored cork greases......
I tried muton tallow once, just once and it almost made me vomit. Couldn't stand the smell.

(Disclaimer - I sell plant derived cork grease and synthetic cork grease)
IMO - avoid animal fats and petroleum based products for wood - cork is wood.

It is just that I need to return an instrument and it has Yamaha cork grease in the case, and since it doesn't say anything on it I didn't know what type it was (seemed like regular petroleum type but I wasn't sure). I was thinking if it wasn't good I'd give them cork grease from the Dcotor, so I will.

Beef tallow has too much Cholesterol. Try Crisco, it's cholesterol free-and half the saturated fat of butter! Can't get in grape, though. However, it is derived from plants (like cork).
