I'm looking for a good MiniDisc player/recorder to record myself and also record my lessons. I already have a great Sony mic and I was wandering if any of could help me in obtaining more information about this. Thank you.

I'm pretty happy with my Sony MZ-R55. The real problem is they're too small and the buttons are multi-functions.

I have a predecessor model to the one Mark mentioned, a Sony MZ-R50. MD (MiniDisc) offeres many advantages to cassette, such as better fidelity, no "flutter," random access, etc. There are home component MD "decks" available, but then you give up the portability. Unfortunately in the process of making the portable recorder small, the buttons became small. Having worked with several recording formats in the past such as reel-to-reel, 8-track, cassette, Elcassette, DAT, etc., I believe that MD is better than ANY of its predecessors. To me, the final sound is the most important thing; I won't complain about small buttons. MD is also becoming economical and the media is cheap and reusable.

On our recent overseas tour one of our band members purchased a sony MD recorder prior to the trip. During the trip he recorded us playing at some acoustically poor halls and the sound reproduction was really excellent (all notes heard, good and bad). I can't offer any help as to the model but I couldn't believe how well that tiny recorder and mike worked. Definitely a good investment.

i recently purchased a Sony MZ - R90 ( fairly recent / current model i believe ) and it has fantastic features and very good recording quality. I was told however that the quality of sound recording is much the same between most of the models its just the more expensive ones have longer recording / play back time and more feature ( most are unessential )
I would strongly advise getting one , they are fantastic machines

Thank you all for you comments. I think once I can get some money saved up, I'll get one of these MDs.
