Hi I was just wondering if the fingering scheme is similar to the Clarinet fingerings and is it also a reed instrument! Thanxs!

Dictionaries, musical and "large" define it as a brass inst. played with a double reed "like a bassoon". Would suggest library reference to Grove's Dict. [set] and books with pic's of antique insts. Rendall makes a ref. to it. Luck, Don

Good luck with this search! Check for Conn contrabass sarrusophone also while you are at the library. Maybe Steinway will find one in the UMI closet! (imagine a sarrusophone 'coming out of the closet', frightening!

Sarrusaphone?! AH! My teacher says that is the most terrible sound that can ever be heard. My God, it's a bad instrument. But they still exist somewhere. I heard one on-line, sounds weird. Crazy thing.

There was one on display at the (?) Band Instrument Museum booth at ClarinetFest. It was right next to where Mark Charette was.

To amplify on someone's recommendation to look on www.contrabass.com, Grant Green, the webmaster of that site, plays and owns more than one sarrusophone, including the awesome contrabass. Yes, he plays gigs on it! I don't agree with people who think it's a horrible-sounding horn. If it's well played and in good playing condition, it's a most interesting and beautiful instrument, IMHO. Not practical, though, I admit.... Anybody who has to use a luggage cart to carry their instruments should check out that great site. He's got information about bass and contrabass clarinets and saxes, too, along with many other "seismic winds".

How many sarrusophone players does it take to change a lightbulb?
Both of them!
