So, I just finished selecting my new A clarinet, and have gone with a custom Yamaha. Unfortunately, it has a 54mm barrel, so it doesn't fit in my double case. Does anyone know of a double case that can hold a R13 Vintage Bb, and the A I just described, or am I condemned to carrying two cases? Thanks.

The Wiseman case is very expensive and a little too posh IMO but it's great and I think it will carry any two clarinets no matter what the barrel size is. I decided it was worth it despite the two disadvantages, and my clarinets were almost never back in their original case since.

What about the Yamaha double case?
Didn't the Yamaha A come with a double case?

The issue is NOT really the barrel but the additional length of the upper joint which makes up for a barrel that is 10mm shorter. I know for a fact that it is POSSIBLE to order a BAM double case made for German horns. However, you need to get a hold of a BAM rep and a really friendly local dealer. The dealer will have to place a special order and the case will be shipped with all the other standard orders......by boat!!!! The wait can be as much as two months but I have done it. Cost is the same as the standard French BAM.

Hard to find but Marcus Bona cases are infinitely adjustable on the inside because holders are movable. No problem with the barrel either because barrels fit into holes. Very lightweight and small. Well made. Relatively expensive.

Can't you just alter your own case by folding back the velvet lining, removing some of the styrofoam to lengthen the upper joint cavity and then reinstalling the lining? Just a thought.........

That was going to be my suggestion, too. Better yet would be to use the
Yamaha double case that is deigned for that model to begin with....seems like there would be one available!
