H. N. White Silver King

Can anyone tell me when an H. N. White Silver King serial number 110237 was made? Also, there appears to be a ring at the base of the "barrel". The ring turns very slightly; I wonder if it is supposed to turn more for tuning. As far as I know, the "barrel" is not removable. (It fits into it's case with "barrel" attached.) Does anyone know if this is a tuning ring and, if so, how does it work? If it is supposed to turn but doesn't, how can I convince it to do so?

The heyday of the metals, Boehm version, was about 1910-40. From your description, you may have a tuning barrel like the Cundy-Bettoney Silva Bet had, which were notorious for "freezing up", prob. because of lack of lubrication of the helical threads for vertical adjustment. Perhaps a skilled [older?] repair person might be able to restore its operation. Luck, Don
