 Pedler Premier Serial #P514

I have been playing the clarinet and sax since about 1947 for fun and amazement. I purchased a Cabart clarinet while in high school and still play it today. Recentl I acquired a Pedler Premier Bb clarinet in very nice shape. Upon examination I foune that the horn had an extra tone hole between the D and C fingering when playing in the lower register. The tone hole is covered by a pad which closes over the hole when D is fingered. The hole lies right under the key depressed to play Eb. This tone hole and pad is on the upper side of the clarinet in line with all the rest.
Perhaps someone can give me some info on this?
Thank you!

I believe what you have is the "fork" fingering mechanism to provide another alternate way to play Eb/Bb by raising the middle finger left hand. It is among the first additions to the usual 17/6 Boehm system cl, the others being an alternate Ab/Eb lever, the articulated C#/G# and the low Eb/Bb 5th rt lf key, which make up the so-called Full Boehm system. Try it to see! Don
