 Meliphone clarinet mouthpiece
Author: Chetclarinet

I am asking for some additional information if possible on a vintage,Meliphone K5 facing on the table, clarinet mouthpiece. I have played, collected , bought and sold many vintage mouthpieces over the years, but have no real knowledge of this high quality mouthpiece! I have seen many meliphone sax mouthpieces for sale, but have actually only had two of these great mouthpieces in my collection over the years. The mouthpiece looks and plays very close to the older N.Y. Woodind Co. mouthpieces with the facings on the table. Does anyone have any more information on these mouthpieces? thanks

Contact Lee Livingood. He'll have a few things to say about them.

Hi Chet - FWIW - I have been "lurking" here to see if any other "oldsters" had or can recall any Meliph[f?]one mps from their past [1930-40's]. My initial dance band "career??" began with a Buescher silver-plated alto sax [and a PM FB clarinet !]. Being dissatisfied with the A S stock mp, with recommendation from local saxers, I bought, ?$'s, a Meli--- "Special" which I played on up into the 1950's. It's facing may well have been a K5, cant find it now in my Selmer M6 [ the Selmers C** and D play better on it], or in my Leblanc 100 cases, may have given it away via an A S sale. Yes, they were made by Woodwind, in NYC, [off BDWY?]. I visited them in the 50's , while on business there and had them reface several [too-close] cl mps, O'Briens, for a go at symp playing. They have[had?] many facings available, I have an old WW tenor which looks to be a B6, but my tenor-range playing is on bass cl now, so cant describe it. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
