I JUST INHERITED THIS CLARINET. IT'S QUITE LOVELY, BUT I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT. IT'S ENGRAVED SUPERTONE #E10337 WITH SCROLL WORK AROUND IT. 19 IS ENGRAVED ON THE BACKSIDE OF ONE OF THE KEYS. IT COMES IN A PURPLE, VELVET LINED CASE. IF YOU CAN GIVE ME SOME INFO, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. ALSO, IT NEEDS A CLEANING. CAN I DO THAT MYSELF, OR DOES IT NEED TO BE DONE PROFESSIONALLY. THANKS SO MUCH. MEADOW

Is this a metal clarinet or is it a wooden clarinet with silver plated keys?
Metal clarinets were popular for marching bands in the first half of this century, because they are weatherproof. Many metal clarinets were made, but in general the quality ranged from mediocre to downright awful. The chances are this instrument is worth nothing except as a curiosity. Feel free to clean it yourself.
Wooden clarinets are a different matter. The quality ranges from bad to excellent. The only way to tell is get someone who plays to check it out. You may have a beautiful instrument or a dud. In either case, it won't be worth much if you want to sell it. There are vast numbers of used clarinets on the market (check ebay) and this keeps the prices down. If it's a good clarinet, you should play it or give it to someone who will love it.
