Has anyone any method for these ascending and descending kinds of gliss? I have been working on these with fair success in the ascending direction on my clarinet. But am getting a lot of squeaks descending, When I try to use the same feeling/technique that kind of works for me on the saxophone(decrescendo with very legato fingering) any tips wouls be appreciated. -Todd Holle

I never had as good a time smearing downward as I did upward. When you smear upward, you are actually playing a high C as soon as you start sliding off those fingers. It has been grossly dropped in pitch due to the presence of those extra fingers along with your wide open jaw & throat, and you are constantly improving its quality as you go upward.
Going downward, you are adding stuffiness and seriously opening your mouth and throat. You are progressing from the best sound to the worst--and that means you have to know when to stop. Otherwise, it'll deteriorate into a squeak.
