Dear Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for a first rate performance of my klezmer piece at Clarfest on July 4th. You guys had it on the first run through and the second time really kicked butt! And even more importantly, it seemed you were having fun! We are living in an age where "live" musical performance is waning, where people find it easier to sit at home in front of the high-def and veg. To get people to overcome the awesome gravitational pull of a recliner and go hear a live performance takes the kind of musicianship and attention to detail and sheer love of performing that your ensemble displays. I was honored to perform with you guys, I wouldn't have traded you for any of the D.C bands that night.
To everyone who attended my Klezmer class, Thank you! When you perform for high level musical conferences it's always hard to know if what you do has any effect on anyone. As a group you made me very aware that I didi, that you were willing "to get out of your comfort zone" and were really enjoy the process. When the group marched around performed our tune at the end of the class, I was moved. When I can help anyone do something on a clarinet they didn't think was possible for them my day is made. Clarinet fests aren't known for having events where there is alot of participation, where there was the opportunity you seized it.
I'd also like to thank Morrie Backun for: A. making it easier for me to perform, believe me, I fight with the tools of music (clarinet) a lot less since we met. and B. Having one awesome party,my guys had a total blast playing for it . They always enjoy playing for musicians who "get" what they do. It's always fun for me anytime we get to play together, we been doing it so long that we know what each other is going to do before we do it.
Thanks To the ICA, I think it was a very successful and fun Clarinetfest!

I have to say my eyes practically popped out of my head as I read your message. Thank you so very much for taking the time to send it, and for your high praise. We were honoured to perform with you. And you are right, we WERE having a blast!! There is no other word to describe it.
I have passed on your message to the rest of PSWE. I don't think many of them lurk around here so I wanted to make sure everyone got to see this.

Hi Tom,
I live 10 miles from you and hear you on occasion in the area. I ALWAYS enjoy your music and shows (that is truly what they are), but when I travel far and wide and you are there playing and teaching, it is the ultimate high to come home with my fists full of your neat tricks for clarinet. The best trick ever was learning to triple-tongue. I am forever a slightly-above-average clarinetist, who can finally do something amazing with my tongue. Thanks for your passion and help.
