Surfing on my new HDTV after midnight last night I blundered onto a DVD clip of Julian Bliss playing the Messager Solo de Concours in a gala concert on the grounds of Buckingham Palace that apparently took place some 4 years ago. To quote Phil Rizzuto: "Holy Cow!" I've played and coached this solo many times, but I've never heard it played with such panache before!
Astounding technique, lots of musicality and smoke coming out of the clarinet!
As Ron Reuben's wife told him, when I introduced them to Bob Spring's "Tarantelle" CD: "Why don't you play music like that?"
Yeah, sure!

I too saw it on a PBS station and I dug it
out and started practicing it again... It was
an awesome performance.

I'm resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has the video link to (12 yr old)Julian's performance of the Messager.
I remember watching it on the web not long ago, but can no longer find the link for it.
I'd like some of my students to see it, for inspiration ...GBK

That was a dope video whoever put it up.
Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. they are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which was already but too easy to arrive as railroads lead to Boston to New York

I bought the dvd and viewed it last night. I first saw Julian live a few years ago and he just keeps getting better with time. The Queen obviously adores him.
I enjoyed the remainder of the dvd also.....especiallly dear Slava.
