Hello everyone,
I was viewing the historic telecast of Ariadne auf Naxos with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Erich Leinsdorf, and featuring Claire Watson, Robert Nagy, and John Reardon in 1969. I was wondering if anyone knows the clarinetists (or have an idea of who they might be). I've been searching for quite some time, and have come up short of an answer.
Thanks
NG

The cast at that time was likely Gino Cioffi, principal, Peter Hadcock, asst principal/Eb, Pasquale Cardillo, second clarinet, and Felix Viscuglia on Bass Clarinet.

If you caught sight of Cioffi, you'd know who it was. He weighed well over 300 pounds. Harold Wright, who succeeded him, was "standard" size. Pasquale Cardillo was barely 5 feet tall.

I didn't think Cioffi weighed that much when he was with the orchestra. Also, in the Selmer brochure that I have, Cardillo is taller than Cioffi. Manuel Valerio was the short one. He was second clar but he was gone by 1969. Cardillo was second then and Pete Hadcock was Eb.

Pat Cardillo was not tall, but not small. I remember him as being around 5'7". A very nice person.
