A clarinetist friend of mine has asked me to introduce a recital he is doing, only being a bassoonist I have nothing interesting to say about any of his pieces. If anybody knew anything interesting about Lutoslawski's Dance Preludes, Schumann's Fantasiestücke or Brahms' clarinet trio, I'd be most grateful.

Jack Brymer in "Clarinet" has brief comments [on playability etc] on much of the clar music. I should think that "Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians", under the composer's names might have helpful comments as well. Others of our clar books prob. discuss music also. Don

You must be an eloquent person and it is an honor to be asked to introduce someone, but......why can't the performer provide the interesting facts lecture/recital sytle?

An easy place to look is always on the album notes inside the CD cover -- there are often interesting tidbits, but not an avalanche of info that can be overwhelming...
Good luck!
