I've always wanted to know people's thoughts and experiences on the ideal situation for a musician to be living in. I'm talking about your home, your family, your friends, your work (whether music or not), everything.
For example, a few years ago I lived in a share house with people I was very close with. I was there for 2 1/2 years and life was very settled. Due to the house itself, I could practice without bothering anyone and it was a great acoustic, and I had a room dedicated to practice. During this time I improved a lot and had some success that I hadn't had before and haven't had since.
At the moment I live in an apartment with OK acoustics and the dog next door won't stop barking when I play and I have to restrict practice to daytime hours. Life isn't as settled or great as before, and I feel like it affects my playing.
What things contribute to an ideal situation? What's worked for you and what has not?

sometimes we've gotta understand that we cant live in ideal situations. Maybe having a loud dog next door is annoying, but that could be great for your concentration, whis is a major comopnet of a good player. Once you learn to function well, in spite of minor distractions, you'll be amazing, and then you can move on to other things because that'll be one less thing to worry about.
