type of selmer

Hi I just purchased a Selmer albert system clarinet and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. All pieces have the same markings...Selmer with big S under the logo. There is no serial number that i can see ...it has brown rollers ... any idea? thanks

I am not sure if the S has any significance. also it say selmer paris

I did some searchin on this site (great site by teh way) and found this:

1/1/60 S Series S1150
1/1/61 S Series S4160
1/1/62 S Series S7390

Where these any good?

Hi K---, Could the S [below logo] be an HS [overprinted], which, on my 1929 Selmer-Paris A, is said to indicate Henri Selmer's "approval", possibly his "tuning". Re: those '60's S ser #'s, I doubt that they made any Alberts that late, perhaps others can help you, I'd doubt yours might be any later than the 1930's, likely earlier. Don

Thanks for the reply, it actually has some kind of overprint on the S. I belive that is what it is! Thank you. Do you have any other info about this? Where these clarinets good?

Hi again K- I noted your 2nd question, yes, my old Sel A is the best A I've ever played, but have had no symp. "trial by fire" opportunity. It has "wings" on the logo, which some say makes it a bit special. Most Sels are quite good ! I looked at J O'J ref. [I searched for "Selmer Albert" and looked for the post #'s, easier !], much about Woody Allen's movie-experience, other refs there might interest you. Let us know your conclusions, luck, Don
