I recently ordered a Bb Pete Fountain Crystal Mouthpiece, an am not sure as how to care for it and if I can use my present ligature. I play on a Bb Pete Fountain Leblanc Clarinet with the ligature with which it came (Metal). I would appriciate any help i could recieve on this issue.

Thanks,

I have his mouthpeice, the only thing you really need to worry about is to waych the tip, I have a couple dings in it but I do not know from where, I also use the ligature that came on my leblanc LL, all the picture I have seen of pete holding or playing his horn he was using a ligature like mine(but gold plated), the ligature plays great on it.
After you get your mp you should email me and tell me what kind of reeds you found work on it, I am having a little trouble with this.
Good luck, I think this mp plays great, a little closed feeling, but not sounfing.

I have a crystal MP that is 56 years old with 8 years playing time on it. It is in perfect condition. I always thoroughly clean it after every session, just as I do my clarinet. I use a plastic MP cap with plenty of tip clearance and I don't place the MP anywhere except on my clarinet or in the case. I have used a number of different ligatures which all work fine. However, since my MP outside Diameter is large, I make sure the ligature will fit(some are too small in Diameter).

Just don't drop it and wash it out once a week and you'll be fine.
Never ever ever swab through a mouthpiece. The friction just wears away the inside over time. No wonder people think their mouthpiece "plays out" after a few years. Or they don't like the sound they get anymore cuz it's 'changed'. The bore and window of the mouthpiece are the second most important thing next to the tip and rails.
