I don't know how familiar you are with Respighi Fountains of Rome, since it is the least played out of the set of three (Pines, Fountains and Festivals) but I just wanted to ask you a question...
Soon I shall be playing this piece in an orchestra, and my friend, who is a clarinettist, has been asigned the bass clarinet part. We both have been listening to recordings of the piece and love the bass clarinet solo about 3 minutes into the first movement of the fountains. BUT, sticky situation! It doesn't appear to be in the bass clarinet part. Now, what's this all about?
Are we being incredibly blind and going absolutely barmy, or are there different editions to this orchestral work? Or perhaps it's not a bass clarinet, although we are damn well sure it is one! One of the other clarinets of the family perhaps? But that wouldn't make sense, because the scoring includes clarinet I, clarinet II and bass- or am I wrong?!
Please advise!

The clarinet solo 6 measures before #3 in the 1st movement is for Bb clarinet.
The first note is (written) C#4.
BTW - The bass clarinet part is written in both Bb and in A.

It's definately 2 and a bass. There is a bass solo in the march (last movt) for the bass, quite a haunting moment before the brass raise the roof.
