hi,
i'm trying to figure out repertoire for a recital, and was wondering if anyone could throw out any quick descripts about the pieces by tomasi (i know he has a concerto, and an introduction/dance thing), since i've loved his works for sax and flute before. also, my professor has recommended the ben-heim pastorale varie, which i've never heard of...
and, if anyone generally wants to recommend any repertoire, that'd be great! i'm fairly competent, but only have a month and half to get this recital underway, so hopefully nothing devastating : )

I think Ben Haim is a great composer. I played one of his pieces long time ago. I think it was called "Three Songs Without Words". From what I remember it is not difficult and really great piece.

I worked up and rehearsed the Ben Haim - Pastorale Variee, but for whatever reason, the performance never materialized.
It is a florid work, incorporates a lot of taragato style improvisation elements (written of course). Has a simple theme and variation format. I remember thinking it had a lot of sibelius elements to it, but with a more exotic ?eastern? feel. It isn't particularly difficult. The piece was originally written with a string orchestra, however, ben haim did the piano version (you will need an excellent pianist).

The Tomasi Concerto is a really great piece but might be too hard to learn in a month. The Pastorale Variee is great as well. Both would be very fun to work on.
