I've tried searching, but I have been unable to come up with anything regarding the different insignias Noblet used on their clarinets. Buffet always looks like Buffet with it's slotted oval and liar on top, but I have been looking at a few Noblet instruments, but they all have slightly different designs - some with triangles, some in rounded-off squares, some with N and D marked concurrently, while some only have an N.
I hope I am describing this as clearly as possible, but does anyone know how to tell if it is truly a Noblet? Or is it just simple changes that occured over time with changing ownership?

My boxwood Noblet from about the 1830s has a lovely insignia: it's marked "D Noblet Aine" with a little sunshine happy-face!
I believe that the shape of the insignia used to designate the instrument makers' guild in each region. If you look at older French clarinets from the Paris area they generally have the dotted-oval Buffet-type logos. Once it became a hobby of non-union makers of lower skill to copy the well-respected insignias, this practice stopped. The New Langwell Index has a chapter about the history of insignias - someone with a copy on their shelf should be able to fill in the details, and tell you more about Noblet specifically.

You've brought up an interesting bit of information I have overlooked / not thought about.
I think early metal Noblets had the rounded square emblem (and 45s the diamond). Whereas in the 60's the Noblet 40/27 line was the Buffet type logo.
Noblet has varied their emblems over time - ALOT with similar styling though.
With the model 45 it's been fairly consistent as the basis of their emblem has been a diamond. though what is IN that diamond has varied.
As for the model 40's they started out a Buffet type logo in the 1960s and then changed to the rounded off rectangle. Varying through time with ND, N, D, etc.
They are all Noblets.

At one time Noblet was not part of Leblanc. If I recall correctly, not until the final Mr Noblet (who had no other family to take over the business) gave the business to mr Leblanc to carry it on. ok, really short and not informative but there's more info on the website.
So your smiley face Noblet is probably original =-)
