Hi,
A few weeks ago i asked the forum if anyone could tell me any info about my Bass Clarinet as i purchesed it for a very good price, but have no info about it.
I got several replies telling me where i could look etc... e.g. The How Old section on this site, but my serial number wasn't registered there!
I am going to try again!!!!
Ok,
My Clarinet is a Bb Bass, it goes down to Low Eb, the make of it is:
EVETTE & SCHAEFFER
PARIS
FRANCE
MODELE BUFFET-CRAMPON
The Serial number is: 4644 (and it is right!!!) but i have been told they can't go this low!!!
It is the only number on there!
It has not spike Stand, but to Sling hooks instead.
I don't know what else to say!!!
If you can help in anyway with When it was made, whether or not it is a good make etc...
I would be very Greatfull
Regards
Muzic

Your bass isn't a Buffet, but an Evette & Schaeffer (marketed by Buffet, but not made by them). I don't know of any serial number list for Evette & Schaeffer bass clarinets.

Likely it was made by another French [possibly a German] maker [of lesser repute] in accordance with Buffet's methods, some 20-40 years ago [to be "stencilled" E - S]. It prob. is a good "intermediate" bass, like others you can find on EBAY [search "bass clarinet" for about 30 items]. Also search our Phorum under Evette and/or E - S. Dont be discouraged if you cant "nail it down", all basses need lots of TLC to play well, and I've found that they differ among themselves more than our sop. Bb's do. Don
