I would like to take my grade 5 clarinet in Vancouver, British Columbia. Is it possible? Is it through the Associated Board of the Royal Society of Music or some other organization? The only grades I have taken have been in the UK.
Thanks.

The most accessible option would be the Royal Conservatory of Music here in Canada. I'm not sure how the RCM grading system corresponds to that of the UK system, so it'd probably be a good idea to pick up a syllabus and a registration form from a larger music store (Ward Music, perhaps?) or ask your teacher. Exams run in the Summer (August), Winter (Dec-Feb) and Spring (April) sessions for most instruments. There's more information at http://www.rcmexaminations.org; however, it seems to be down at the moment.

I hop off the #351 and walk to Ward's (Long & McQuade) all the time and have yet to be mugged although have passed a few of Vancouver's more colorful people. The corner to avoid is Hastings and Main.
A great teacher gives you answers to questions
you don't even know you should ask.
