Fish skin pads, I assume. Sounds alarming, but is perfectly normal. Don't worry about it. It won't smell of fish (I hope).

The Buffet E11 is a can't-go-wrong purchase at the price.

Accent http://www.accent.cc is a new brand which I don't recall seeing discussed here. If you'd asked in advance of buying, I suspect everyone would have voted for the Buffet.

But in clarinets, you usually get what you pay for; if both instruments were the same price at the same retailer, you probably weren't ripped off.

Though I suspect the Buffet will have a higher resale value.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

For a thousand clams, I'd look at a used R13. Might not be in the BEST of shape, but for a thousand dollars, I'd take a used R13 over a new E11 most any day of the week.

But WHATEVER the choice, try the actual clarinet you're buying before you buy to make sure you are satisfied with what you're getting.

'Fish skin' isn't technically true as it's Goldbeater's skin - it's the intestinal lining in the intestines of cattle (a thin membrane) and the same stuff sausage skins are made of, and gut strings as well (which aren't made of cat gut).

I like your screen name, I might go and watch the 'Tragedy For You' video.

Gut strings are terribly expensive comparing to synthethic and polyester counter parts.... ooops, forgot this is not a tennis forum...
