I use mostly V12 4's.
3.5 and 4 are recommended for V12's and Rues, and 3 to 4 for standard.
Maybe you're using too high a strength, or the long facing is tripping you up.
However, I get fuzzy/airy sound mostly from medium-long facings, so who knows.

V12 3.5 works perfectly for me. Blue box 3.5s also are ok but don't have enough resonance for me. All I get with a 4 is fuzzzzzz.

I have this trouble too, with the airy throat tones on my M30. I use either V12 3.5's or Gonzalez 3.75(sanded down a bit) The Gonzalez's seem to have a richer sound with the throat tones, but I haven't used them for a while. It is getting dryer out (depending on where you live). It's COLD here in MN right now. I noticed that when I'm having trouble with fuzz, all I need to do is let the reeds soak in some warm water for a short while. Try that, just DON'T do it to new reeds and don't do it for too long.
