I got this mouthpiece with a musty old clarinet I found in a junk shop and since I'm a bit of a germ-phobe was nearly just going to throw it out but thought I'd better ask in case it was likely to be any good
Haven't had the chance to try it (or the clarinet!) out yet but any information anyone knows about the make would be appreciated
It has the letters A?VS on the back and 3 lines around the bottom
it's tinged green and smelles like tires

If you could show us a picture of the other side of the mouthpiece it would be helpful. There are frequently markings up the right side of the table.

Mel, it appears the first letter is an R rather than an A. Note the offset where the right side leg joins the horizontal line and the change in the angle of that leg as compared to the line running from the horizontal line on up to the peak.
I've seen that trademark before, but don't remember where . . . will do some digging around for it. Eu

I just checked all over the rest of the mouthpiece and particularly the right side of the table and there are definitely no other marking anywhere on it
Doesn't look worn there so I assume there never were markings
I can take photos still or of any other part if it would help

Well, just dunk it in some soapy water, run a swab through and try it. The cork seems to be in decent shape, but if the fit is loose you can wrap a strip of newsprint around it.
In the photo, it looks in rough shape, so I wouldn't expect much, particularly if the baffle looks the same way, but you never can tell.

Seriously why are people such germaphobes when it comes to mouthpieces? mouthpieces are like glass. sure theres grime on the glass, but would you throw away your entire window just to replace the glass? Keep it for future reference. mouthpieces can be experimented on or re-worked for practice. give it a shot someday.
That logo seems VERY familliar. I just can't put a name to it. it looks like an american standard mouthpiece that was featured with silver clarinets? not sure.

No one has mentioned the score lines 1 above, 3 { !! , significant ? } below. I have only one mp with "that", made by NEMC [I believe, cant now find it] , a G8 facing, which was used by Woodwind earlier. I have a Kell MAXITONE M, does anyone know about it, pliz. Don

If there are no other markings, I probably can't definitively tell who made it without seeing it in person. (I'd be happy to look at it if you're ever in NYC or South Dakota.) The most important question is: Does it play well? You may have to try different strength reeds to determine this.
As far as the 1 line up/ 3 lines down being significant, I know some good mouthpieces that have that, such as Chedeville and Kaspar. I also know some bad mouthpieces with that.
