I am amazed, but I just lived through the experience of my daughter's debut as an orchestral soloist. Here she is last week doing the Cimarosa Oboe concerto, which is transcribed for clarinet, with the Sierra College Orchestra.

Alexis Horlick is the high school band concert mistress, senior class valedictorian, varsity soccer team captain, competitive gymnast...etc. on and on... also a neat kid!
Years ago she swiped my Evette Master, which is the best horn I ever played, so I got a vintage (1952) R-13 to replace it. Two days before this concert she said she was having difficulty getting my old horn to play, so I checked and found some bad pads. A quick trip to the repairman and viola! A non-playing stick of Grenadilla! She claims my r-13 is also non-playable, so I borrowed another for the performance. Now you know what she wants!
In it's prime the old Evette was better than any r-13 so it (and my r-13) is in for a complete overhaul. I hope to get it back before she starts college this fall. The head of the music dept gave her a music scholarship... and he is the clarinet prof! (Btw, he couldn't believe the Evette wasn't an r-13 because it sounded so good!)
If you are a senior next year I suggest you go and play for your local junior college orchestra prof. He/she may let you do a solo on one of their concerts, it is a valuable experience and just may help get you into college or get that scholarship. It didn't take up much time... a lot of practice at home and just two rehearsals with the orchestra!
I will treasure the CD they are putting out of the performance. BTW, I am the principal clarinetist with the college and since thie Cimarosa uses only strings, I got to go out to the audience to listen! Alexis is a much better clarinetist than I ever hope to become!

Congratulations!
As the father of an 8 year old pianist (also a redhead) with a recital coming up in two weeks, I can empathize with your joy and pride.

You've done well by her. Thank you for sharing your happiness.
Ginny - who gets joy from just seeing her kids in their bands.

Wow! A *versatile* neat kid! -- I'll bet the sports (especially the soccer, where she's running a lot) have given her great breath control on clarinet. Congratulations to the whole family.

This orchestra looks a little like my community college band -- a lot of folks way over college age.

One point of a junior college is you are never over college age! Hey can't we all still learn? I know I sure can! We do have some recent high school graduates and some septagenarians... and lots in between! We all have fun, and most seem to learn and improve.

This is great! A fine reflection of her family and upbringing.
