When I try to pull up this link, I get the message "The uploader has not made this video available in your country." What music is Frost playing and with whom? What date is given for the uploading?

Is it from his new recording of the Messiaen Quatuor... with Janie Jansen on Sony? I can pull up this audio sample:

https://sonyclassical.lnk.to/MF-Messiaen.

He does sound very round and mellow--features that come easily on Backun instruments. When he played recently with the LA Phil, he was using a Buffet Basset Clarinet, I believe. He visited Gilad and his crew at the Colburn school in October. They would probably know if he's been playing a Backun too.

A few years ago Frost wrote in his blog that he owned "12 clarinets." When I heard him live about 2 years ago in the Copland Concerto with the Houston Symphony, he was playing a Buffet. If he has one or more Backuns as well, that doesn't necessarily mean he "changed to Backun." He's always switched around with his Buffets so a Backun or two could just give him more choices for any given performance.

The barrel and bell don’t look like anything Backun have done for whatever that’s worth. It does look like he has a low F vent thing though. What other clarinets have that?

Fröst is promoting the Aidoni barrel:
https://www.aidonimusic.com/

Looking at the trill keys, the clarinet he uses on the video is clearly a Backun. The wood is cocobolo. There is neither a MoBa nor a Backun logo on the E3/B4 lever.

The bell probably belongs to a Buffet Elite or Divine.

@seabreeze, unfortunately I couldn't make it to Martin Fröst's masterclass with the rest of the studio, but when he performed the Quintet it was on a Buffet A clarinet. No basset extension.

Fröst still isn't listed on the Backun website as one of their artists, so I'll assume he just choses his clarinets based on which one he finds to fit each situation most. His mixing barrels and bells also indicates that he doesn't need to tie himselft to one single brand.

But Fröst is still listed on Buffet's web site as one of their artists. He also has still a text on his own web site about using Buffet Crampon.

On the other hand: in the booklets of his BIS recordings he always listed his "instrumentarium" used for that recording. There is no such list in the booklet of his latest recording with Sony Classical (Messiaen). It is only sponsored by Vandoren.

I saw him play Quartet for the End of Time when I was in Sweden this past summer (by the way it was the best concert I have heard in my entire life. I was depressed for a couple of days after I found out it wasn't recorded. Good to know they are releasing an album though!) It looked like he had a Backun barrel and bell. Though he did have a Buffet Tosca at the time. However, the Aidoni grenadilla does look like the barrel he used. Anyhow I think Kalashkirby is right. He seems to switch between different equipment depending on what and where he's playing.

Just a curious question: I know its kind of easy to tell if someone is playing a different branded instrument than the one they claim they are sponsored by, but how do we know if these pros actually use what reed? Like they may all claim they use Vandorens for instance, but we can't actually see the reed, so how do we know they're not using something else?

The reeds do not matter much actually because most players will modify the reeds anyway.
