i was wondering if anyone would care to show pics of themselves holding their clarinet?
front/ back/ side (especially thumb postion) and be willing to tell some critique from other posters?
or maybe its a bad idea - just a thought

There is a very good picture in the Menuhin's music guide(clarinet) book.
If you don't have, check local library or ask around. It is a very popular book.

Excuse the slightly 'arty' picture, but this does show my hand position...

At the end of the day though, everyone has different size/shape hands. So long as your hand position isn't hindering your technique and isn't going to cause you to injure yourself, it isn't 'wrong'.

thanks danny - cool pics. i just want to see different ways people hold their clarinet. especially the thumb position. i have a feeling that instead of doing *exactly* what the "books" say - we each do what makes sense for our own hand size/finger size/bone structure. want to get some visuals.

Janlynn,
With my old clarinet, it was necessary to move my thumbrest down the horn toward the bell. That lowered my right hand ring finger away from the side trill keys --so that I didn't accidently bump the Eb/Bb side key and cause the lower register to squeak.
I'd advise you to make piece between your hands and your clarinet. If you need to move far from a conventional position, seek help from a good teacher, tho.
