hi, my vandoren 2.5 reed don't seem to have the same tone quality as it had in June. Although I feel less resistance from the reed now than before, I feel that its tone quality is degrading...instead of its former round woody sound, it comes out as this really flat, "round"less tone.
FYI I soaked it in water after buying it for approx, err, 12 hours? Is that harmful?
Or maybe it's time I move on to no. 3 reeds?
thank u!

New reeds don't require that much soaking my friend. In fact, no reeds ever require that much. I would say more like 12 seconds would be better...
Throw that old reed out the window friend.

Isn't this monsoon season? As seasons (and humidity) change, so will the response of your reeds. I assume you mean NEW 2.5 reeds not the same one from June. As Detru points out - get rid of the old ones (anything over a month old is probably played out).
As for soaking, I just introduce a new reed into a container of water for about a minute just prior to playing. Play on the reed for only about five minutes, then put it away until tomorrow. REPEAT two more times. On the fourth day you can pretty much play and adjust as much as you like, but don't forget to break them in FIRST!!!
