Jack Maheu, a dear friend and prominent clarinet player throughout the USA and abroad, is in search of a plateau system clarinet or overhauling one of his clarinets as his left hand is not quite as strong as a result of a stroke. I spoke with Charles Bay and while he is not able to do the work, he did give me some ideas. Any suggestions or contacts?

Plateau system clarinets are still available new, both in plastic (Holton Vito 7214P) and in wood (Noblet 50S). They cost more than the equivalent conventional models, but not hugely more. What is the problem?

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I started playing plateau because of a weak left hand too - it made all the difference between giving up and carrying on playing.
I play a Malerne which is excellent and also have a Noblet plateau - both off eBay and fully overhauled (4 on Chris P's definition elsewhere on this site).
Keep playing - it is great physiotherapy too!
