I've been asked to play with an acoustic guitarist friend (light-type of music that's appropriate for a cafe/coffee house kind of setting); however, selecting the pieces has been the subject of intense debate, not to mention the ones that we've tried just seem like something's missing (like a rhythm section)
Any suggestions (please!)?
Joe

There are two volumes of books written by Kalmen Opperman. I think they are called repertoire collection. They are for Guitar and Clarinet. They are really nice. Check them out.

In addition to the Opperman "Repertoire Collection" Vol. 1 & Vol.2 (published by Carl Fischer):
If you're looking for lighter fare for the cafe/coffee house kind of setting I would suggest you look at the many, many books of guitar/flute duets in all styles (classical, baroque, pop, folk, etc.). You can then transpose the flute parts.
I would also suggest the Piazzolla and Gardel tango pieces which can easily be done on clarinet/guitar.

I've heard a terrific recording of Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata by Robert Alemany on clarinet and JoAnn Faletta on Guitar. There's a published arrangement available.
