 Leblanc Bliss clarinet
Author: Funfly

I have been listening to Julian Bliss playing and came across a clarinet he designed called the Leblanc Bliss.
Price seems to be quite low, in the region of £850, but I have not come across any for sale myself.
Has anyone here tried one, any comments. I would be interested to hear more about this unusual clarinet.
Black plated keys and unusual materials for the body?

Edited to say that I have looked at some past posts on the subject.
Is it still being made or did it die a death?

I recently bought a Bliss clarinet. I love it. Initially I just wanted to try it out, but I think it has now become my main instrument. The ergonomics suit my hands well, it tunes exceptionally well, it weighs a great deal less than the Imperial I've been playing and it sounds great. My thumbs are a bit arthritic, and the reduced weight is a blessing. As far as I know they're still made, and they come up on EBay. Mine has conventional keywork, not the black nickel finish.

I own a Bliss. After trying out a number of different clarinets, it's the one I decided on because it fit my small hands so well and it's light...and darn cute. As Tony said, it's very easy to tune, and it generally stays in tune (unless I'm on stage and those really bright lights are shining on the band). I bought the silver-keyed one because I'm not wild about the darker keys. I bought mine from Kessler in Las Vegas. I know they still have some for sale. I'd trust them in a heartbeat to send to the UK. Mine came with both a MoBa barrel and the standard barrel. They also have some used ones which, from them, I wouldn't hesitate to buy. I do not work for Kessler's...I am just a very appreciative customer. I own the wooden Bliss, not the plastic one.

Well-made instruments at a competitive price. Howarths stock them in the UK, so worth taking one for a spin if you're in London one day, or no doubt they would send you one to try.

Interestingly the same thread is currently on the SOTW forum. It meanders off-topic but you may wish to check it out for some further opinions.

After almost a year of research and play testing, this is the clarinet my son chose to upgrade to from his Vito Resotone 3. They are still available for sale. However, I would stay away from the ones with the black keys. The plating comes off after only a short while, according to reports from other consumers. The newest version that is being released has dealt with a few complications that arose after the early versions were released. All that to say that it is an amazing clarinet that offers almost everything a professional clarinet does for an intermediate price.

I was told by a dealer that the nickel-plating problem has been solved and the plating is now guaranteed for ten years (I THINK he said ten yrs.).
