From The American Rag, July 2006, a note in Uhl's Tidings column says:
Despite rumors that his doctor would not let Pete Fountain appear, the clarinetist made it on stage at Jazz Fest. He opened and closed each number but sat beside the piano while others took their solos. He was recovering from quadruple bypass surgery. "You don't know what this means to me," he said. "Four weeks ago, I thought I was gone."
I think this was the New Orleans Jazz Fest. Keep tootin, Pete!

That is great news. We were planing on seeing Pete in Bay Saint Louis last summer when the hurricane hit. It seems as if we may not be able to see him play live again.
