I haven't yet had an audition where the judge would ask for scales by their CONCERT names, expecting me to play them on a Bb clarinet...so just make sure you know what they're looking for, because they may just ask you scales by the note names you would read on music for the Bb clarinet.

Ashley:
Outside of horn blowers, when the rest of the world talks keys they talk a whole tone below you. They talk and think in concert Bb, concert G, concert Eb, etc. You just think a whole tone above them.
That said, often when someone asks you to play "the D scale on the clarinet", they mean your D. But hey! You can always ask.
If someone hands you a piece of music and it says "Clarinet" on the front or the top it's already transposed. Play it as-is.
Can't talk about auditions though, having never had one.
Good luck!

Most chair placement auditions I have taken have used Concert scales with the exception of Honor Band/State Band auditions.
Best of Luck on your audition!!!

I have to say, if you've been in band for 5 seconds and you have the nerve to take an audition I'm surprised you don't have all of the concert pitches for AT LEAST Bb Clarinet down by heart. How old are you, what is the audition for, how long have you been playing?
