I just returned from a long weekend in Paris, and had the pleasure of attending a production of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra at the Opera National de Paris. It was fantastic, beautiful singing, and the orchestra was among the finest I've heard. Of course, as a clarinetist, I must comment on the superlative abilities of the solo clarinetist Philippe Cuper. I'd always enjoyed his recordings a great deal, but to hear him live is a real treat. He has one of the most beautiful, rich, creamy tone qualities I've ever heard, and undoubtedly the most beautiful, seamless legato playing I've ever heard from a clarinetist in a live performance. If you ever have an opportunity to hear him play live, sell whoever or whatever you must, it will be worth it.

Christopher, not surprising you found this a good company as it's probably one of the top opera houses in Europe, alongside Covent Garden and the Deutsche Staasoper Berlin (two name just two) - of yes, and La Scala.
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.
