I've been playing clarinet for almost 4 years, and I am now a sophomore in high school. Whenever I read a clarinet board somewhere, I will usually find someone who says something like "I am a level6 clarinetist," or "I just reached level 4."
My question is, what do these levels mean, and how can I find out what level I am on? Thank you.

There are series of exams people can take in different parts of the world that classify them as Grade 5, etc. They never really caught on in most of the U.S., and this board is the first place I heard of them as well.
Personally, I find them somewhat similar to "I'm a level 6 night elf Rogue" :P

Most states (USA) have a solo and ensemble list of works which is used for their competitions and festivals.
The list can be either based on 4 levels or up to as many as 7 levels.
In New York, NYSSMA (NYS School Music Association) divides the solos and ensemble music on 6 different levels, with level 6 being the most difficult.
Find the graded list of solos for your particular state and see which ones you can presently play. That will determine the approximate level which your state considers you would fall into ...GBK
