Does anyone know of a system like SilentBrass for Clarinet? I remember I saw something a couple of month's back but didn't catch the name.

Could it have been this:

The problem is, could you stop laughing long enough to actually play the clarinet? ;-)

Steve,
I imagined something worse.
For me, the most effective silencer so far was a forgotten swab in the bell.

I doubt we'll get anything more stylish than that. At least not until someone decides to create an electronic boehm clarinet with batteries/power supply and a headphone jack in it's barrel. But even then, you'd probably have to play it without a reed. But at least you could work on your fingerings.......

Anyone willing to continue the development? Doc H.?

There's actually a quite interesting system called Clarimute coming with the
'claripatch'. Check the 'instructions' file for more information. It's some sort of a coin with two small holes that is put between the upper joint and the barrel. It completely silences your clarinet!
It is a very useful system if you'd like to exercice your fingers at home arround midnight... but it will definitely not replace normal exercising...

Instant silent clarinet - find the most open mouthpiece on the market and the hardest reed, and voila! But isn't that what most learners are doing anyway? Seems to be the case...

most open mouthpiece (...) and the hardest reed
...but instead of happily tootling away in silence your sore muscles make you scream.

Silent Sax ... made me laugh and think of Claude Debussy's comment "the saxophone sounds like a lawn mower".
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.
